Time for a Redesign

Greenville Web redesign project

This is the first post in a series that will illustrate a real website redesign project. Using this website as the test subject.

Why? I have free time as I am between clients, I am not happy with the current website, so why not document my redesign process here in the blog. This way I can share the pain & my thinking through the process of the redesign.

My main goal for the new web design should look great on every screen size, it needs to be responsive.

Here is a quick break down of what I like and don’t like about the website.

Site Wide

Things I like:

  • Simple navigation
  • Search box
  • Blog archive
  • Pagination

Things I am neutral on:

  • Fonts
  • Our Services page

Thinks I don’t like

  • Not Responsive
  • The Footer
  • Colors:
    • Header
    • Green titles in copy
  • Everything about the Portfolio
  • Contact us page
  • Google Plus links

Home Page

Things I like:

  • What’s New section
  • Featured Design

Things I am neutral on:

  • Services Hero Area – May be too many options
  • Call to action below the Services Hero Area

Thinks I don’t like

  • The Team area

Website content management and user interface framework choices

The website is going to be powered by WordPress, as it now. The main reasons for this is WordPress has a wonderful API allowing developers to add extra functionality where needed.

I have thought about using the Bootstrap framework to speed up the responsive design. BootStrap is great! However I feel like it’s everywhere. Because of this, unfortunately, many modern responsive website look the same.

I believe I’ll using parts of Bootstrap, like the navigation components. You can see that in action at my CV website www.rixom.org
